The Fish Sign

16 One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority. 2 He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow; 3 red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!  4 Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Then Jesus left them and went away.

Matthew 16:1-4 (NLT)

Jonah. Spent three days and nights in a fish belly.

That Jonah. He experienced something no other human can claim.

Incredible fact, he was in the belly of a fish.

They wanted a sign. Jesus said look carefully at Jonah.

Jesus created Jonah’s life. Similarities existed. Same number of days.

Three. The same amount of time, yet, very different outcomes.

Jonah lived to preach. Jesus conquered death to defeat sin.

The sign of Jonah. Fish. Jesus gave the perfect proof.

Prove you are the Son of God. They deviously demanded.

Then they crucified Him. Three days later He’s seen. ALIVE.

3 During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God. Acts 1:3
