Meet an Illustrator

What happens when one gets ideas for a story?

Some people write their ideas on paper. Then they put all the ideas together and call it a book.

Somewhere in the process the book is complete…in print…for sale. How do people find out about a newly printed book? Usually there is a publisher who communicates to people that there is a new book for sale. The more successful the publisher, the greater the publicity and the book sells. It’s something like that.

What if the person with a book idea hires an editor, hires an illustrator and PAYS a print shop to turn the book idea into a printed book. For one thing it is expensive. There is a name for this-call it self publishing. A self published book requires the author to share the book… you know, advertise it for sale.

It is no fun for me to pat myself on the back…call it blowing your own horn…it’s difficult to be humble when you self-publish.

Truth is, I self-published a book. Like it or not, promotion of the book is my job. It’s is my personal opinion but The Adventures of Boone…All About Me…At First is a well done book. It is realistic. It’s based on real events. It’s written for 11-15 year olds…boys, and girls. It is also written for parents. The book is fast moving, and full of adventure. And there is a very important idea in it: Time Spent Outside is Never Wasted.

This is the about the illustrator page.

Nate Christenson grew up in China with his parents and two brothers in a city of over eight million people. But even though nature could be sparse, he grew to love the outdoors —

especially the times when he could get away into the surrounding mountains.

He started to develop the eye of an artist when he began to read chapter books and discovered that drawing the characters was something that he finally could do better than his older

brother. Yet the initial competitive motivation quickly turned into a self-driven pursuit of art, which would eventually lead him to study drawing and painting at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and begin a career with his God-given creative abilities.

Nate now lives and works in the mountains of Ecuador with his wife, Britta, and two Maine Coon cats, Bagheera and Baloo.

Thank you Nate for the diligent and skill work you did on the illustrations for All About Me…!
