Best of Friday and Saturday

Presenting the best bird photos of this Friday and Saturday morning!

There has been a constant movement of birds to the bowl of water on our deck these days. My explanation has three parts. First, the habitat around our house is dry. The bowl of water is the only source for two blocks. It is easiest for birds to drink there. Less flying is required. The largest number of birds to come for a drink are robins. This is the second reason. The robins are in our backyard to eat the dry flowering crab apples. Some are on the ground, a few are left on the tree. The first two reasons for so many birds drinking water are proximity and availability of food. The final reason is the beginning of spring. Robins are migrating and have returned to our area. The robins easily outnumber all the other bird species.

All of these factors make a grand show. And a bird show is never dull.

There are birds flying to our deck nearly all day long. It’s not only robins.

Look at the photos…enjoy the beauty!

First the robins…

Second, the house finches…

Third, the delicate pine siskin…

Fourth, the tiny chickadee!

Fifth specie…The cedar waxwings!

Sixth specie…the blue jay!

The seventh and final specie…A European Starling.

These photos were taken on a Friday and Saturday. Some of the bird species came regularly both days. There were eleven species total. I just wanted you to know of the delightful variety that has occurred behind our house at the start of spring. Hope you’ve enjoyed the pictures. Want more birds in your yard? Try adding water.

One more thing. We humans get thirsty as well. We actually become thirsty in TWO ways. We have a physical thirst as birds do. And our second type of thirst? Our souls are constantly thirsty. How do we satisfy the thirst of our souls?

Go to Jesus.

He is the Living Water.

He once spoke to a woman at a well. He asked her for a physical drink of water. Then He told her about LIVING WATER:

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” John 4:10
