Sunlight Walk

Walk in the sun.

Walk off the street, off the road, off the trail. Walk the earth. It won’t be smooth. The earth is uneven. It will be an adventure. You need adventure.

Walk in the sun. Look at the lake. Crystal clear, the pebbles and rocks show on the bottom. Take the deer trail. A deer knows the easy path. It leads up the matted grass covered hill. Already your eyes have seen more than the view from the street.

Walk in the sun. Feel the chill of November on your face. See the golden-brown leaves still clinging on white barked aspen. Pause and listen to the silence. You will find it soothing. Listen to the silence and hear the mystery found off the road.

Walk in the sun to the place to sit…off the street, off the road, off the trail. Sit on the earth, your back to a tree. Watch and listen, in the sun. Feel the heat generated 93 million miles distant. Remember you are not the only living thing in these sunlit woods. Hear the chickadees and nuthatches, the raspy silence breaking caw of the crow. Marvel at the shadows on tree trunks. Delight in the mystery all around you.

Sit in the sun. The longer you sit, the more you see.

Sit.

Gaze in wonder at the beauty around you. See the sunlight on a single twig. No other human eye sees what you do at this moment. Be silent as the shadows of aspen leaves shimmer on bark. Feel the refreshment creep into your soul.

It’s more than a walk.
